Brian Barker was born in Bristol, Virginia, in 1973 and holds degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University, George Mason University, and the University of Houston. His poems have appeared in Poetry, The Indiana Review, Sou'wester, Pleiades, and River Styx. He is the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize and currently works as the Assistant Director of The Center for the Literary Arts at the University of Missouri and as managing editor of the journal Center. He and his wife, the poet Nicky Beer, live in Columbia, Missouri with their two dogs.
