Patricia Fargnoli, a retired psychotherapist, is a Macdowell Fellow. Her first book, Necessary Light, was selected by Mary Oliver for the May Swenson Poetry Prize, Utah State University Press, 1999. In 2006, she was appointed Poet Laureate of the State of New Hampshire, a 3-year term.

The New Hampshire Writers Project (NHWP) recently announced the winners of the 2005 New Hampshire Literary Awards, the most prestigious statewide awards program to honor outstanding works by New Hampshire authors. Walpole resident Patricia Fargnoli and Tupelo Press author was named the recipient of The Jane Kenyon Award for Outstanding Book of Poetry for her poignant collection Duties of the Spirit (Tupelo Press, 2005).
