Sunken Garden Poetry Festival: Kristen George Bagdanov & Terrance Hayes

Winner of the Tupelo Press 2019 Sunken Garden Poetry Chapbook Award Kristin George Bagdanov reads and signs books with National Book Award-winning poet Terrance Hayes!

With music by Jeff Burnham and the Insiders.

Picnics are welcome and food and wine can also be purchased from festival vendors. Guests bring their own chairs, blankets and sun hats and claim a spot among the flower beds, surrounded by eight-foot stone walls and the sounds of nature.

Accessibility at the SGPF

Hill-Stead is proud to make the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival accessible. Wheelchair ramps are available, and many volunteers are on hand to assist the mobility impaired. An accessible section is reserved close to the main stage, and a large-print edition of the program book is available on-site.

Hill-Stead makes every effort to ensure that deaf and hard-of-hearing people feel welcome. ASL interpreters are provided at the main Poetry stage (depending on interpreter availability) or by request in advance by calling 860-677-4787 x111.

Terrance Hayes is the author of American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassins, a finalist for the 2018 National Book Award in Poetry; To Float In The Space Between: Drawings and Essays in Conversation with Etheridge KnightHow to Be Drawn; Lighthead, which won the 2010 National Book Award for poetry; Muscular Music, which won the Kate Tufts Discovery Award; Hip Logic, winner of the 2001 National Poetry Series, and Wind in a Box. Artist-in-residence at New York University, Hayes currently resides in New York City.

Kristin George Bagdanov of Sacramento, California is the winner of the 2019 Sunken Garden Chapbook Poetry Prize.
